Firewall forward systems progress

Two of three duct tee SCAT hose hookups in place.

Final fuel line (from firewall to engine-driven pump) connected!

Last of the duct tee SCAT hose hookups in place. The large Adel clamp suspending the hose from the engine mount is another of those cantilevered clamp arrangements and its screw/washer/nut were a first-class bitch to get started, even with all of the usual “tricks” in play.

Various oil cooler inlet and support components being primed.

Cooler inlet assembly riveted together.

Cooler inlet assembly tape masked for application of RTV.

Oil cooler fittings installed.

Oil cooler ‘P’ seals installed.

Firewall forward components

Alternator mount bracket installed and safety-wired.

Alternator installed. Several of the bolts are yet to be final-torqued, as the alternator’s final position is determined after mounting the prop.

Best to drape the alternator belt roughly in place now, lest one forget it until after the prop bolts have been torqued.

Alternator power wire installed and secured.

The new prop emerging from its nest.

Ta-da! Seventy-four inches of Hartzell goodness…

Spinner plate and doubler ring in process…

Spinner plate rough cut accomplished.

Spinner plate, doubler ring, and front spinner bulkhead ready for priming.

Spinner plate, doubler ring, and front spinner bulkhead primed.

Spinner plate and doubler ring riveted.

Prop has been placed in the workshop to come up to temperature overnight.

It’ll be mounted tomorrow and torqued later in the week after the special extension crowfoot wrench arrives.

Firewall forward underway

A fresh new Hartzell prop governor.

Prop governor bracket components being primed.

Interesting note that the governor bracket for the -8 was powdercoated steel and the -14A version is, obviously, aluminum.

The covered governor pad as received from Lycoming.

Cover removed and weeping a little oil.

Governor installed and torqued.

Governor bracket temporarily fitted, Adel clamps adjusted, and fuel injection line slightly massaged for clearance.

Fuel flow transducer (red cube) installed and fuel lines in process.

Sniffle valve installed and covered to prevent oil seepage.

Red cube and fuel line closeup.

Initial FWF Adel clamp installation in process. Eight of twelve are done with the others to follow tomorrow.
